March 3rd was the original deadline of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement. After that date all player movement was frozen giving us, the fans, a more then lackluster free agency period, especially compared to last season where we saw big names such as Julius Peppers, Anquan Boldin, and LaDanian Tomlinson ship off to new locations. However, that's not to say there weren't any big moves made before the March 3rd, freeze. Here's a look at some big moves teams made while free agency lasted.

Baltimore Ravens

  • Haloti Ngata (DT) - Franchise Tag

A smart move by GM Ozzie Newsome, tendering an offer to last season's best defensive lineman. Whenever free agency re-starts, the Ravens have dibs on their stud cornerstone.

Carolina Panthers

  • Ryan Kalil (C) - Franchise Tag
  • Jeremy Shockey (TE) - signed

The Panthers two moves were huge for a franchise looking to get back on track. Kalil, has anchored the otherwise weak offensive line for the past three seasons. The two-time Pro Bowler, will give whoever the Panthers' next quarterback is, a steady center for years to come. Shockey, who was cut from New Orleans, was signed in March and gave coach Ron Rivera an immediate upgrade at a position he was aiming for.
