There is a common misconception surrounding all forms of child abuse. The general public belief is that children are more at risk from the twisted people on the sex offenders register or the twisted people who want to do nothing more than see children die. Monsters, in every sense of the word. But that is not the truth, the truth is scary and many would like to hide from it, but with the publicity of the case of Baby P, it seems almost impossible to do so. The case proved that people in charge of the raising of a child will sometimes do the opposite of what they are meant to.
To make matters worse it was not the first time that a case of child neglect and abuse shocked the nation and threatened the sensitive nature of parents of children and the belief that all parents care about their children. With the case of Victoria Adjo Climbie and the books of abuse survivors hitting the stands it is becoming clear that a child is not always safe in the confines of their own home. Scary but true, though the police and other authorities are trying to rectify the problems there are children still at risk and with other agencies trying to help it could potentially turn into a mine field.
With problems arising from an apparent lack of due course and care, people in social services and medical fields are being chastised and even prosecuted for failing children who are abused to the extent of Baby P and Victoria Climbie. There are times when the parents hide the abuse and the child enables them out of loyalty and love and those charged with looking after them do not do what they are meant to.
